CSU Set for Final Tune-Up This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have their final chance to tune up for the Horizon League Championships this weekend.

Both programs head to the Ohio State Winter Invitational this weekend for two days of swimming action. Prelims will begin at 11:00 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday while finals will begin at 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 4:00 p.m. Sunday. A full schedule of events is listed at the bottom of this article.

Live results for the meet will be available by clicking here. In addition to Cleveland State and the host Buckeyes, other schools with swimmers scheduled to compete include Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), Missouri, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Wright State.

This is the second consecutive season in which the Vikings have headed to OSU in advance of the League meet. Cleveland State already swam at Ohio State this season as the programs contested a dual meet back in November.

In closing dual action for the season last time out, Cleveland State celebrated Senior Day by recognizing the 12 student-athletes set to depart the two programs at the end of the season. The Vikings dropped the dual to Buffalo on the men's and women's sides in their last action.

Sophomore Curtis Roden surpassed the NCAA Zone qualifying standard for the second straight meet last time out against Buffalo, as he scored a career-high 347.75 points in 3-meter diving. Senior Philipp Sikatzki was under the 'B' cut time in winning the 100 butterfly against the Bulls and was subsequently named Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week. Classmate Declan McLaughlin earned the same honor from CollegeSwimming after winning the 50 freestyle against Buffalo and swimming on a winning relay.

Junior Tobie Zeller led the way on the women's side against Buffalo. She swept the breaststroke events and swam on a winning relay and was subsequently named Women's Swimmer of the Week by the League office. Sophomore Molly McNamara was the runner-up in both butterfly events last time out while senior Tori Taffner posted a season-best 276.95 points in 3-meter diving.

A number of the programs the Vikings will compete with this weekend are rated highly in CollegeSwimming's team rankings. Men's teams from Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri and Notre Dame are all among the top 30 while six of the women's teams scheduled to compete are among the top 40.

Cleveland State will travel to Chicago to contest the Horizon League Championships Feb. 22-25.
