Cleveland State Closes Home Schedule Against Buffalo

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will close their home schedules and contest their final dual meet of the season this Saturday, Feb. 4, against Buffalo.

The meet is slated to start at 2:00 p.m. An order of events is listed at the bottom of this article. Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile app ($). Fans wishing to follow from afar can also keep tabs on the meet on the teams' Twitter account (@VikingSwimming or Twitter.com/VikingSwimming).

With this being the final time the Vikings will compete at home this season, the programs will honor and celebrate their senior classes in advance of the meet.

Both CSU programs enter their final dual coming off losses to defending Horizon League champion Oakland.

Sophomore Curtis Roden provided one of the main highlights last time out for the Vikings. He scored a career-high 320.93 points in 3-meter diving to qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships. Each of his final five dives in that event scored at least 50 points. In between the lane lines, senior Philipp Sikatzki posted NCAA 'B' cut times in both individual events he entered (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke) while sophomore Tommi Wolst won all three individual events he entered for the second straight meet. Sikatzki and Wolst were both honored with weekly honors by the League and CollegeSwimming, respectively.

Senior Tori Taffner led the Viking women against Oakland by winning by both diving events. In winning her fourth and fifth diving events of the League dual schedule, the veteran posted a season-best score in the 1-meter event (255.45). Sophomore Molly McNamara won the 100 butterfly against the Golden Grizzlies. In doing so, she has now won all seven butterfly races against League foes this season. Freshman Gabriella Marinelli (200 freestyle) and junior Jamie VanDewerker (50 freestyle) also posted winning efforts in last weekend's dual.

Cleveland State dropped dual meets on both sides at Buffalo last season in its final dual meet of the campaign. However, the CSU men have won three of their past four duals against the Bulls. Neither Buffalo team has traveled to Cleveland for a dual meet since 1998-99 although both programs have twice participated in the Magnus Cup.

Buffalo enters Cleveland with a lot of momentum, particularly on the men's side. Both programs sit among the top 20 in CollegeSwimming's Mid-Major rankings. The Bulls hosted a pair of duals on back-to-back days last weekend. Both programs defeated St. Bonaventure last Friday. The Buffalo men downed Eastern Michigan last Saturday for the first time in program history and ended the Eagles' 72-dual winning streak within Mid-American Conference action. The Buffalo women lost a tight, 164-139, decision to EMU. Both programs finished third when contesting the Zippy Invitational in early December.

Cleveland State will send some swimmers to the Ohio State Winter Invitational for a two-day meet next weekend.
