Hamitlon, N.Y. – The men's 200 freestyle relay team won the opening race of the season to highlight the Cleveland State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opening the 2016-17 season at the Colgate Fall Classic Friday evening inside Lineberry Natatorium.

Full results from the first day of the meet have not been made available as of late Friday evening.

The CSU men began the season by having three of its relay teams finish among the top five in the 200 freestyle relay. Senior Declan McLaughlin, sophomore Tommi Wolst, senior Robert Tolson and senior Philipp Sikatzki teamed up to win the opening race in a time of 1:24.24.

Freshman Jack MacDonald, seniors Phillip Burton and Aidan Burton and junior Patrick Tippen combined to finish third in the same relay in 1:27.60.

Senior Aidan Burton was CSU's top finisher in the 500 freestyle as he came in eighth in 4:59.37. Sophomore MacJilton Lewis paced the Vikings in the 200 IM, finishing seventh in a time of 2:01.56.

On the women's side, CSU sits fourth of seven teams with 125 points.

Sophomore Cassandra Oltman had the Vikings' top finish on the women's swimming side Friday as she was fifth of 44 competitors in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:13.67. Classmate Claudia Zido was a few spots behind in eighth in 2:14.89.

A quartet of Vikings scored in the 50 freestyle, which featured 75 entrants. Senior Anna Evans led the way in seventh (25.13 seconds) while junior Jamie VanDewerker followed right behind in eighth (25.14). Oltman was in 13th place in 25.41 while freshman Chuchu Yang came in 15th in 25.54 in the first individual swim of her collegiate career.

On the 1-meter diving board, sophomore Maggie Stebick and senior Tori Taffner placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with 199.95 and 192.85 points.

CSU will complete action in the event Saturday as 14 events remain in the meet for each gender.
