Pewu Tabbed All-Region

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Gabriel Pewu of the Cleveland State University men's soccer team was named All-Region in an announcement Monday by the United Soccer Coaches.

Pewu earned a spot on the All-North Region Third Team as a forward. Essentially half of student-athletes named to the All-North Region teams hail from Power Five schools.

Pewu led Cleveland State with nine goals and 19 points in his final season, both of which tied for the highest figure by a Viking since 2003. He sat among the top four in the league in both goals per game and points per game.

Pewu had some of his best performances against some of the Vikings' toughest foes. He netted twice each in wins over Akron and Ohio State, scoring the game-winner in each match. Pewu also scored the game-tying goal at Louisville with fewer than 10 minutes left in regulation and scored the golden goal in the 100th minute against Northern Kentucky.

His game-winner at Ohio State helped CSU beat OSU for a second straight year while his winning tally against Akron helped the Vikings top the Zips for the first time since 2010.

The All-Region teams are selected through voting by member coaches in their respective divisions.
