Jandric Named Nike HL Offensive Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Vlad Jandric of the Cleveland State University men's soccer team was selected as the Nike Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week in a League release Monday afternoon.

It's the first-career weekly award for Jandric as he becomes the third active Viking to have won a weekly honor from the League, joining Thomas M'Barek and Gabriel Pewu.

Jandric was the primary offensive force in the team's 3-1 win over preseason favorite UIC as the Vikings ended the Flames' 12-match unbeaten run against League opposition.

Jandirc scored all three goals in the victory over the first-place side, notching the first hat trick by a Viking in nearly five years. He opened the scoring fewer than seven minutes in to give CSU some early momentum and found the net again fewer than eight minutes later. Jandric finished off the natural hat trick early in the second half. All three of his tallies were unassisted, including the opening one where he gathered the ball on the edge of the center circle and dribbled forward through multiple Flames defenders before unleashing a shot to the far post.

It was the second career multi-goal outing for Jandric with both coming in League play. UIC had not allowed more than one goal in any of its past 10 matches against HL foes, but Jandric singlehandedly broke that streak Saturday night.

Cleveland State will open a three-game, non-conference road swing this Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Duquesne.
