FAIRBORN, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's soccer team outshot nationally ranked Wright State Saturday afternoon, but the Raiders took their chances at a much greater rate to claim a 4-1 decision in Horizon League action at a cloudy Alumni Field.

CSU took 17 shots to 16 for the undefeated Raiders, who entered the top 25 in Top Drawer Soccer's rankings this week. The Vikings also took six corner kicks to just two for the hosts.

Sophomore defender Ben Hryszko scored his first collegiate goal in the setback on a header after receiving a pass from classmate Zack Kluever.

There were two changes to the starting XI from the Vikings' midweek win over Bowling Green. Senior Antonio Burgoa earned his second start of the season, and his first in defense as he became the fourth Viking to start at center back on the campaign. True freshman Jannis Schmidt returned to the lineup after coming on at halftime against the Falcons.

The Raiders had a decent look at goal in the fourth minute when a shot from the top of the box sailed high. A couple minutes later, junior Lawrence Karpeh played a left-footed cross from the right wing into the box. Classmate Gabriel Pewu nearly ran on to it to head it in, but the goalkeeper beat him to the spot to claim it.

The hosts took the lead in the 11th minute when a cross from the end line on the left wing was played to the back post, where it was headed home.

The Raiders doubled their lead just over 10 minutes later when a shot was taken from just inside the box. Battling bodies in front of him and a deflection, the CSU goalkeeper stopped the shot but was unable to hold it, and a WSU attacker was there to tap home the rebound.

Wright State kept the pressure on and would soon score twice more. The first started with a short corner that was never cleared before a lofted chip shot got inside the far post. WSU's final goal came after it forced a turnover in midfield and played a low through ball between the center backs, leaving the attacker with just the goalie to beat.

Cleveland State had a great look to get a goal back within the opening five minutes of the second half. Senior Noah Pio got down the left flank and hit a hard cross that the keeper's dive redirected back into the center of the pitch. Senior Gianluca DiFranco and freshman Tommy Paltani both had shot attempts in the ensuing sequence, but they were both kept out by Raider defenders.

In the 57th minute, Pewu's header off a cross from the right flank forced a diving save by the keeper.

Cleveland State would get on the scoreboard in the 65th minute in the moments after a corner. DiFranco kept the ball in the box after the goalkeeper's punch, and it was redirected to Kluever. Kluever then crossed the ball centrally where Hryszko headed it home.

The Vikings had a golden chance to put some pressure on Wright State late on in the match. Pewu chased down a soft back pass by the Raiders and was taken down by the keeper when he was in alone in the box. However, the subsequent penalty was sent wide of the post.

After the missed penalty, Wright State was able to see out the match and claim the win.

Wright State was whistled for three-quarters of the game's fouls but only received one of the four yellow cards handed out in the match. The teams combined for 13 offsides infractions, including eight on the hosts.

Pio had a match-high six shots.

Cleveland State will close the month by hosting defending League tournament champion UIC next Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7:00 p.m.
