THE OPENING KICK:
• Cleveland State plays a pair of in-state foes this week with its non-conference home finale Tuesday and Horizon League play on the road Saturday.
• CSU hosts Bowling Green Tuesday, with the Falcons holding a slim 17-16-1 advantage in the all-time series after winning at home last season.
• This will be the eighth straight season the Vikings and Falcons have met.
• CSU heads to Wright State Saturday owning a 19-15-1 lead in the series.
• CSU and WSU have met at least once every season since 1989.
Lawrence Karpeh owns two goals in his career vs. the Raiders while Noah Pio has a goal and two assists.
• In seven of the last nine regular-season meetings, the winning team has scored exactly two goals.

LAST TIME OUT:
Gabriel Pewu scored a game-tying goal with under 15 minutes in regulation to help Cleveland State earn a road point at Milwaukee.
• CSU outshot the hosts, 21-10, including 11-2 in the first half.
• Sophomore Colin Kane made his season debut by starting at left back.

FREE KICKS:
• Cleveland State was tabbed fifth in the Horizon League preseason poll.
• While it took the fifth seed in 2017, CSU has been seeded fourth or better in the Horizon League Tournament in eight of the past 10 seasons, the highest figure in the League in this span.
• The Vikings got a result this past weekend at Milwaukee despite trailing in the match. This is the 13th consecutive season in which CSU has come from behind to earn a result at least once and the eighth straight season it has achieved the feat on the road. The Vikings have now pulled off the achievement in a road League match four times in the past five seasons.
Vlad Jandric and Noah Pio were both selected All-Horizon League Second Team in 2017. Thomas M'Barek was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Noah Pio has a point in nine of the past 17 matches, scoring in five of them. Pio was among the top 10 in points, goals and assists in HL play in 2017.
• Thirty two of Cleveland State's last 44 goals have come in the second half. In fact, 12 of those goals have taken place in the 77th minute or later.
• CSU has allowed 14 goals from the run of play in its last 19 regular-season matches.
Vlad Jandric and Noah Pio have combined to score seven of CSU's last 11 goals in Horizon League matches.
• Pio's goal vs. Green Bay was the first time a Viking free-kick taker scored since the opening weekend of the 2016 season (excluding penalty kicks).
• Cleveland State has outshot its opponent in four of its first five matches.
Noah Pio has scored or assisted on each of CSU's last nine goals in Horizon League matches.
• Among the 25 starts made by Vikings on defense or in goal this season: 15 starts have been made by true freshman or redshirt freshman while the other 10 starts were made by sophomores.
Gabriel Pewu's goal at Milwaukee was his first career tally in HL play.
• All eight true freshmen that are healthy played on the season-opening weekend. Two more redshirt freshmen also made their collegiate debuts.
• Six CSU rookies have started at least once while freshmen Ryan Kolonick and Saahb Kular have each started four matches on defense.
Ben Hryszko, Dan Manolache and Thomas M'Barek all started at least 10 matches on defense as a true freshman last season, with all three starting both postseason matches. Last time out at Milwaukee marked the first time all three started in the same match this season.
