Week #7

THE OPENING KICK:
 • Cleveland State closes its three-match homestand with a single match this week and is also hosting Alumni Weekend.
• CSU hosts Milwaukee this Saturday, Oct. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
• Saturday's meeting will be the 48th meeting between the programs, as the Panthers are the Horizon League foe the Vikings have faced the most.
• Milwaukee owns a 27-16-4 lead in the all-time series.
• The Panthers won at home, 1-0, last season, but CSU has gone 3-2-1 in the last six matchups. Alec Nagucki scored his first career goal in the 2014 meeting, the last Viking win in the series.

LAST WEEK:
 • Cleveland State opened the week with a 2-1 win over Patriot League preseason favorite Loyola (Md.) and then took down HL foe Belmont by the same scoreline this past weekend.
• Hesham Hammouda & Noah Pio both had four points on the week.

FREE KICKS:
 • Kirk Harwat is in his first season as head coach for CSU after serving as an assistant for the program for the past five seasons.
• Senior midfielder Alec Nagucki, an All-Horizon League First Team honoree last season, has played in every match--all 65--since he arrived on campus.
• CSU has been seeded fourth or better in the Horizon League Tournament in eight of the past nine seasons, the only team that can make this claim.
• CSU lost two central defenders from last year that combined to play in 108 matches, with Sergio Manesio twice earning HL Defensive Player of the Year. CSU has started two newcomers at central defense in eight of ten matches.
• By taking ten points from its first four Horizon League matches, CSU is off to its best start in League play since the 2002 team won its first four matches.
• CSU's 3-0 win at Oakland was its first three-goal win in HL play since 2013. Amazingly, the last time CSU won by 3+ goals in a road League match came in 1993.
• Twenty four of Cleveland State's last 32 goals have come in the second half. In fact, 11 of those goals have taken place in the 77th minute or later.
• CSU was one of the most disciplined teams in the Horizon League in 2016. It accrued 20 total cards while every other team in the League was issued at least 28. The Vikings have the fewest number of cards thus far in 2017 (14).
• Six of Cleveland State's 10 newcomers have started a match this season.
• The Vikings allowed the fewest goals in the Horizon League last season, conceding 16 goals in 17 matches.
• Seven of CSU's eight non-League opponents are in the top 80 in the RPI. Five of the eight are among the top 50, including No. 1 Michigan State.
• Six Vikings have played in all ten matches thus far.
• CSU has allowed three goals from the run of play in its last seven matches.
• Cleveland State has outshot its first four HL foes by a combined 69-37 margin. The Vikings lead the League in shots and corner kicks in HL matches.
• Madifing Conde's goal vs. Loyola was the first by a CSU defender in 2017.
• Noah Pio & Vlad Jandric both scored in the last two League matches.
• CSU is 6-0-1 in its last seven home games and has allowed three goals.

 • CSU will commence a four match road trip with a pair of matches. It plays at Akron Tuesday, Oct. 10, and at HL leader Green Bay Saturday, Oct. 14.
