Drobac and Manesio Named Academic All-League

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Seniors Aleksandar Drobac and Sergio Manesio of the Cleveland State University men's soccer team were both named Academic All-Horizon League in an announcement made the League office Friday afternoon.

Drobac and Manesio were two of the 11 to be named to the team that honors student-athletes for their success on the field and in the classroom. Faculty athletics representatives from each institution voted to determine the composition of the teams.

CSU was one of only three schools to have multiple student-athletes named to the team. It is the second straight season in which at least two Viking men's soccer student-athletes have been chosen for the team.

Drobac earned his first selection to the team in his final season, as he owns a 3.62 GPA as an organizational leadership major. He started the final 13 matches in the 2015 season and helped the Vikings to an incredible defensive finish that saw the team post six shutouts in the final eight matches. Drobac led the Horizon League in both goals against average (0.73) and save percentage (.828) in 2015. Thus far in 2016, Drobac has a 0.97 goals against mark and an .800 save percentage. He made a season-best seven saves and allowed only a single goal in a match earlier this season at Wake Forest, a program currently ranked second nationally.

Manesio claims his third consecutive Academic All-League award with this announcement, as he sports a 3.66 GPA as a finance major. He was recently named as one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, and the only one hailing from a Horizon League school. He was also tabbed the Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the League after the 2015 season. Manesio has scored three goals this season, and owns 16 in his career, but really makes an impact as a central defender. He was named the 2015 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and has played a pivotal role in Cleveland State leading the League in goals against average to this point in the 2016 season.

The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with Academic All-League honors in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.

Cleveland State resumes action Friday, Nov. 4, as it has its final League match at Milwaukee.
