Update (Nov. 15): Cleveland State has announced an additional game that was not listed in the original schedule release earlier this month. The Vikings will travel to Hampton for a road game Saturday, March 14. This addition gives the Vikings 15 regular-season games and one scrimmage this spring.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – A pair of games against preseason top-10 teams, home games against Marquette and Utah and a pair of first-time opponents highlight the Cleveland State University lacrosse program's 2020 schedule released Wednesday morning.
CSU has 14 regular-season games on the slate as well as a home scrimmage. The Vikings will host a Big East foe for the first time and have four games against teams named in the final 2019 national rankings.
"Since the start of this program, we have gone out and looked to schedule as difficult a schedule as we can," head coach Andy German said. "This year is no different, and I am excited for the opportunity our guys have in front of them. Our February is as challenging as anyone's, and we welcome the opportunity to play some of the premier programs in the country and see where we stack up. If you look at those five games and can't get motivated to work a little harder this offseason, to do a little extra day in and day out, this probably isn't the place for you."

Each season ticket account includes one complimentary gift—a Cleveland State scarf—with the ability to purchase additional scarfs.
For the second straight season, Cleveland State will host The Hill Academy in a scrimmage in advance of the regular season. Fans can attend the scrimmage Saturday, Jan. 18, for free to get a sneak peek at the Vikings before the regular season commences.
Cleveland State will open its fourth season of existence by hosting a BIG EAST foe for the first time. The Vikings will welcome Marquette Saturday, Feb. 1, at Noon to open the season. CSU took down the Golden Eagles on the road last season in one of the young Viking program's most significant wins to date.
The Vikings will then hit the road for four consecutive games, beginning with a matchup at Michigan Feb. 8. The Wolverines are the first of five opponents that the Vikings will have faced in each of their first four seasons.
After facing a Big Ten foe on the road, Cleveland State will travel to meet an ACC opponent the following week. The Vikings will face Notre Dame Feb. 15 in the first-ever meeting between the programs. The Fighting Irish advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season and are slated among the preseason top-10 against this year.
For the fourth straight year, the Vikings will close the month of February by traveling to Colorado to face Air Force and Denver. Competing in the Pioneers' Face-Off Classic event, CSU will face Air Force, who owned Division I's best scoring defense last season, Saturday, Feb. 22. The Vikings will then face the host school, listed among the top 10 in preseason prognostications, the following day.
Cleveland State will open the season's second month by hosting Bellarmine Friday, March 6. The Vikings will then face off against Mercer Monday, March 9, in a neutral-site contest taking place in Towson, Md. Both of those games will be the third straight season in which CSU has faced those opponents.
The Vikings will remain on the road Wednesday, March 18, to face Robert Morris. The two-time defending Northeast Conference champions lost to eventual national champion Virginia in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Cleveland State will continue its run of facing Canisius in each season of its existence when it travels to New York March 24.
The Vikings will return home Saturday, March 28, as they host Utah for the first time. That game will feature a recognition ceremony for the program's first full graduating class.
CSU will then hit the road for three straight contests as they face St. Bonaventure (March 31), Binghamton (April 7) and Detroit Mercy (April 14). The Vikings will be playing the Bearcats for the first time ever while the matchup with the Titans will be the fourth in four seasons.
Cleveland State will close out the season Friday, April 24, as it welcomes Lafayette.
"This is going to be a memorable year for all of us as our first senior class graduates in May," German said. "I know everyone associated with the program is intent on sending them out with some really special memories."
Cleveland State will continue its streak of playing at least one team from the ACC, BIG EAST and BIG 10 in each of year of its existence to date.
The Vikings will be under the direction of first-year head coach Andy German, who was named to the position last summer.
Cleveland State posted a winning record in its third season by winning seven of its final 10 games in 2019. After having one DI win in their first season, the Vikings had four in 2018 before registering eight in 2019. In its third year of existence, Cleveland State had no true seniors on its roster in 2019.
