CSU Hosts 100+ Local Youths for Field Experience

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University lacrosse team, in conjunction with US Lacrosse, hosted children from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Friday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

CSU put on a Field Experience for the local youths to introduce many of them to the game for the first time. There were over 100 children in attendance, ranging from fourth to sixth graders.

US Lacrosse Midwest Regional Manager Bryce Woodson and the current and former Presidents of the US Lacrosse North Coast Ohio chapter, Drew Roggenburk and Dave Cerny, addressed the students when they arrived. The trio helped introduce the basics of the game, answered questions and discussed their experiences in the sport and the opportunities it offers.

The students then participated in an on-field clinic that featured six stations. With help from Cleveland State student-athletes, the local youths learned about and practiced a wide array of skills such as shooting, passing and defensive positioning.

Sophomore captain Gage Johnson was quick to ensure the children had a fun experience. Helping out at the shooting station, Johnson made sure the youths celebrated each time they scored a goal.

At the end of the on-field portion, the children had the opportunity to watch a number of Cleveland State players partaking in on-field drills.

US Lacrosse assisted with organizing the event and provided the smaller lacrosse sticks and softer lacrosse balls that were used at the event.
