COLUMBUS, Ohio - In the first-ever game between two Division I lacrosse teams from the state of Ohio, nationally ranked Ohio State got the better of the Cleveland State University lacrosse team, 12-4, Saturday afternoon at a cold Ohio Stadium.

The Buckeyes remained unbeaten on the season with the win over the Vikings, who began a stretch of three games in five days Saturday.

Midfielder Danny Tesler had a fine return to action, after missing the previous two games, as he scored twice. He also won 7-of-13 faceoffs and picked up six ground balls. With his scores, Tesler now has a team season-best six-game point streak.

Attackman Jake Lewis posted his second straight multi-assist game as he finished with two helpers. He notched his team-leading seventh multi-point game in the process and now owns a team-best 19 points on the year.

Even though it only held a 7-5 edge in shots in the opening quarter, the host Buckeyes were able to parlay that into a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes of action.

Cleveland State's lone strike in the opening period came when Lewis hit a cutting Nick Wendel in stride, and Wendel immediately fired on the run to find the twine.

A goal in the first minute of the second quarter and a man-up tally later in the frame, both by the hosts, was all the offense for the game in the second quarter.

The Vikings were impressively able to kill off 90 seconds of penalty time late in the second quarter, including a portion while playing with only four defenders.

Cleveland State put together an improved third quarter statistically in which it had advantages in shots, ground balls and faceoffs. However, Ohio State was still able to extend its lead during the period, helping the hosts put the game on ice.

Tesler scored once each in the third and fourth quarters for the Vikings, including showing a nice spin move to dodge a defender and cut right down the middle of the defense at the net. CSU finished its scoring when Lewis, stationed behind the net, found Noah Gleeson on the left wing, who fired home.

Tesler contributed his third multi-point game of the season and his second multi-goal effort. Caleb Espinoza made 10 saves for the Vikings.

Cleveland State killed off each of the last four extra-man opportunities that Ohio State had during the game.

The Vikings won 9-of-17 faceoffs while Ohio State had a 37-28 advantage in shots.

Cleveland State continues its five-game road trip this coming Tuesday against an undefeated Hofstra team that just knocked off defending national champion North Carolina.
