Cleveland State Golfers Finish Third At BGSU John Piper Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golfers put up a strong showing in their opening tournament of the season at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate Invitational, finishing third overall. The Vikings carded a 295-295-287---877 at the par 72 Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Sophomore Billy Houle (Joilette, Quebec/George Vanier) paced the Vikings, shooting a 70-70-71---211 for second place, just one stroke short of medallist honors. Houle's score of 211 marks his best three-round score of his CSU career.

Senior P.J. Myers (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) followed Houle in the Cleveland State standings, climbing from 35th after two rounds to finish tied for 11th with a 77-75-68---220. Myers' third-round 68 marked a career-low. Senior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J. Brennen) tied for 20th overall, tallying a 76-73-73---222.

Eastern Michigan took medallist honors with a 288-283-286---857 and finished only five strokes ahead of runner-up Wright State. The Raiders' John Schones led all individuals with a 72-69-69---210.

Next up for the Vikings is the Ball State Invitational to be held on September 21-22.
