Vikings 12th after Day 1 of Tom Tontimonia Invitational

Westlake, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team sits in 12th place after day one of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, hosted by CSU at Lakewood Country Club.

The Vikings shot an opening round 301(+17), and followed with a second round 302(+18), for a total of 605(+35). Windy conditions throughout the day made scoring difficult. Oakland leads the 14-team field with a 578(+10) total after 36 holes.

Individually, freshman Brody Simms is tied for 25th place after shooting 73-74-147(+5). Junior Andrew Kaye is close behind at 7-over 149. Kaye shot a 73 in the opening round which included two birdies in a three hole stretch on the back nine. The matching 73s by Simms and Kaye were the lowest rounds shot by Viking players on the day. Dayton's Henry May leads the individual race at 3-under 139.

Other Viking competitors include Alex Anderson(T-48, +10), Jack Hanus(T-63, +13), and David Laib(T-66, +14). Gunnar McCollins(T-41, +9), Mason Frazier (T-53, +11) and Jonny Filler(T-66, +14) competed unattached.

The third and final round of the tournament begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
