Men’s Golf adds Alex Anderson for 2022-23 campaign

CLEVELAND – Cleveland State director of golf and head men's coach Steve Weir announced the addition of Alex Anderson to the Viking roster for the 2022-23 academic year.

A native of Hartville, Ohio, Anderson is coming to Cleveland State after two years of competition at Florida Tech out of the Sunshine State Conference in NCAA Division II. There Anderson competed in six events for the Panthers, highlighted by a hole-in-one and a tied-for 48th performance at the Matlock Collegiate Classic.

"We look forward to Alex joining our program this year," Weir said. "His previous collegiate experience should prove helpful to not only himself, but our team as well. Excited to get going this Fall!"

At Uniontown Lake High School, Anderson was a two-sport standout as he earned four varsity letters as a member of the school's golf and baseball programs. On the links, Anderson was named the 2019-2020 Stark County Player of the Year and earned First Team All-State (2019), First Team All-Region (2018, 2019), First Team All-County (2017, 2018, 2019) and First Team All-Conference (2017, 2018, 2019) honors. His third-place finish at the Ohio State Championships was also Lake High's best finish by a student-athlete in school history at the event.

As a team, Anderson helped drive the Lake High championship culture as the program won the Stark County Championships in 2016, the League Championships in 2018 and the League and Sectional Championships in 2019.

"I wanted to come in and make an immediate impact on the golf team," Anderson said, when asked why he wanted to join the Viking program.

Anderson will enter Cleveland State as a sophomore and will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Vikings.
