TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland State men's golf team returns to action beginning on Monday (Oct. 14) at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at the NCR Country Club.
This will mark the third consecutive season in which Cleveland State has participated in the event. Last year the Vikings placed ninth in the field after finishing sixth at the tournament in 2017. Jules Blakely was the Vikings top finisher at last years Dayton Flyer Invitational as he tied for 20th overall.
The field will be comprised of 11 teams as Akron, Bowling Green, Bradley, Dayton, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Oakland, Ohio State, Purdue Fort Wayne and Northern Kentucky are scheduled to join the Vikings in competition.
The first 36-holes of play will begin on Monday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will feature tee times beginning at 9 a.m. depending on team placement following the opening round.
Teams will be competing on the South Course of the NCR Country Club which plays to a par 71 at 7,048 yards over the two-day tournament.
This will mark the Vikings sixth, and final, tournament of the fall season having participated in the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, the Joe Faeganes Invitational, Eastern Kentucky Intercollegiate, the River Run Invitational and the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. Through five tournaments Zach Robbins leads the Vikings with a 71.5 scoring average, while Gunnar McCollins has a 74.5 scoring average and Blakely has a 74.9 stroke average.
Jonny Filler has a 78.1 average in his 12 rounds of play, while David Laib is averaging 78.8 strokes per round over his 15 rounds.
In the Vikings last tournament, Robbins carded a final round four-under par 67 and finished tied for 13th overall at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational. Robbins also had rounds of 71 and 77 to lead the Vikings.
Jack Hanus and Blakely tied for 27th place overall for Cleveland State. Hanus tied his career-best round with a 70 on the final day and finished with a 54-hole score of 220, while Blakely shot 73-72-75 to post a 220.
