Vikings Travel to West Virginia for Joe Feaganes Invitational

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland State men's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 9-10) with the 2019 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.

The Vikings return to competition one week after beginning their 2019-20 season over Labor Day Weekend at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in Verona, N.Y. Cleveland State finished ninth out of 14 teams, and junior Zach Robbins tied for seventh.

The field in Huntington will feature 15 other schools including Belmont, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, George Washington, Longwood, Marshall, Mount St. Mary's, Ohio, St. Francis (Pa.), VCU, Wichita State, William & Mary, Wright State and Youngstown State. The Thundering Herd will have two teams competing at the event.

An annual staple on the Vikings fall schedule, Cleveland State finished fourth at the event in 2017.

Head coach Steve Weir will send Robbins, Jules Blakely, Gunnar McCollins, David Laib and Jonny Filler into competion at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.

Robbins fired a 66 in the closing round of the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate to finish tied for seventh overall. He had a 54-hole score of four-under par 212.

This will mark the first time that any current members of the Cleveland State roster have participated in the tournament.

The course will play approximately 6,573 yards and par is 71. The teams are slated to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with shotgun starts set for 8:30 a.m. each day. Live scoring will be available at BirdieFire.com or via the BirdieFire mobile app.

The tournament is named in honor of Joe Feaganes who coached the Marshall men's golf team from 1972-2002.
