Cleveland State Continues Action at EKU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's golf team continues its fall season this weekend at the Raising Cane's EKU Intercollegiate in Richmond, Ky. 

The 6,623-yard University Club at Arlington hosts the event and will play as a par-70. Teams will play 36 holes Saturday, Sept. 15, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final 18 holes will commence Sunday, Sept. 16, with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament is in its third year with the Vikings having competed on each of the past two occasions. 

Cleveland State opened its season on Labor Day weekend at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, taking 13th place of 18 teams. The Vikings shot a 904 (+40) over the 54-hole event, capped by a final-round 295. 

Freshman Jack Hanus, who played as an individual, was CSU's top finisher at Turning Stone, finishing at -3 (213). He tied for fifth in the 100-player field and was the top freshman finisher at the event. Hanus tied for the lead in the field with 15 birdies and did not make a double bogey (or worse) all tournament. 

Senior Anton Krecic used six birdies to shoot a final-round 69 at Turning Stone. He completed the three rounds as CSU's second-highest finisher at +8 (224). 

Fifteen Division I teams will contest this weekend's tournament:  California Baptist, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Evansville, Longwood, Marshall, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, SIUE and UT Martin. 

Cleveland State took third of 18 teams in the inaugural EKU Intercollegiate and placed eighth of 16 squads last season. Krecic was CSU's top finisher last year, shooting 70-68-75 to finish in the top 20 at +3 (213). 

The Vikings will next be in action on the first two days of October at the Firestone Intercollegiate hosted by Akron.
