Cleveland State Opens 2018-19 Season This Weekend

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University men's golf team will be in familiar surroundings as it gets its 2018-19 season underway on Labor Day weekend.

For the 10th consecutive season, CSU will begin its campaign at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate, hosted by the Missouri. The tournament takes place at Kaluhyat GC at Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y. The 54-hole event will see players tee off at 8:00 a.m. Sunday and Monday via a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available on BirdieFire.

The Vikings are coming off of their fifth consecutive Horizon League Championship this past April, their ninth overall in the past 13 years.

Cleveland State returns four student-athletes that competed at the HL Championships or the NCAA Regionals a season ago, led by two-time All-League honoree Anton Krecic.

Krecic was the team's top finisher in eight of 11 events last season and claimed runner-up honors at the League Championships one year after winning the title. He had 10 rounds of par or better en route to a season scoring average of 74.2, both team bests. He enters his final season as a Viking ranked third in CSU history with a 74.6 career scoring average.

Senior Nick Infanti returns after finishing among the top 15 at the 2018 HL Championship. Infanti has posted scoring averages of 75.1 and 75.6 in the past two seasons and will look to work his way back from injury as the season gets underway.

Sophomores Jules Blakely and Zak Supelak are both back in the fold with a valuable year of collegiate experience under their belts.

Blakely showcased impressive consistency at his initial postseason event, shooting 75-75-77 at the NCAA Regionals. His season-best 227 made him the top Viking finisher at the event. Supelak shot 75-76 in rounds two and three at the HL Championships to finish among the top 20 at the League Championships.

Sophomore Zach Robbins is back after playing 11 rounds in his rookie season while freshmen Miles DeMuesy and Jack Hanus join the team looking to battle for spots in the lineup.

Seventeen Division I schools, including five Horizon League programs, are sending teams to Turning Stone: Bethune-Cookman, Binghamton, Boston College, Cleveland State, Delaware, Detroit Mercy, Missouri, Mount St. Mary's, Niagara, Northern Kentucky, North Dakota State, Sacred Heart, Stetson, Valparaiso, Villanova, Wright State and Youngstown State. Cleveland State will play with Delaware and Villanova for the opening round and will tee off on holes 13-16.

Cleveland State finished fifth of 15 teams at the Turning Stone event last season, finishing ahead of all three fellow Horizon League schools that partook. Krecic was the team's top finisher, shooting back-to-back rounds of 74 in rounds two and three to finish with a 228.

Cleveland State owns three runner-up team finishes at the Turning Stone event in the past five years.

The Vikings will resume action in mid-September by competing at the EKU Intercollegiate held in Richmond, Ky.
