VERONA, N.Y. - Cleveland State shot a final round 298 and moved up two spots to finish fifth of 15 teams at the season opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate that concluded on Monday at the par-72, 6,882 yard Turning Stone Resort (Kaluhyat Course).
The Vikings opened the event with rounds of 326 and 299 on Sunday, battling wind, rain and cold in the morning round, and used the fourth lowest round of the day to move up two spots today and finish with a 54-hole total of 923.
Junior Anton Krecic paced the Vikings as he tied for 18th with a 228 total (80-74-74), while senior Blake Prince shot rounds of 83-69-77 and tied for 23rd place at 229.
Junior Nick Infanti tied for 39th place at 237 (79-84-74), while senior Joey Krecic was one shot behind at 238 (84-80-74) and tied for 41st place. Freshman Zak Supelak finished tied for 49th in his first collegiate tournament, following an first round 89 with back-to-back rounds of 76 for a 241 total.
Host Missouri won the tournament with an 844 total, while UNC-Wilmington was second at 894. Boston College finished third at 908 and was followed by St. Peter's at 915 and CSU to round out the top-five.
The Vikings bested Horizon League schools Northern Kentucky (8th; 933), Youngstown State (12th; 944) and Detroit Mercy (13th; 966) who were also in the field.
CSU returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 11-12) at the Joe Feaganes Invitational in Huntington, W. Va.
