LIVESTATS

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team - under the direction of 11th year head coach Steve Weir - will open the 2017-18 season at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 3-4). The 54 hole event, hosted by Missouri, will take place at the par-72, 6,857-yard Turning Stone Resort (Kaluhyat Course).

The Vikings captured their fourth straight Horizon League Championship last year and return four players who played key roles in the title run. It was CSU's eighth League title in the last four seasons as the Vikings posted a 294.6 scoring average for the season, tops in program history.

Seniors Joey Krecic and Blake Prince return for their final seasons, while juniors Anton Krecic and Nick Infanti are also back. The quartet played a key role in leading the Vikings to the League title last year along with Patrick Luth, a first team All-Horizon League selection who graduated.

Krecic, Prince, Krecic and Infanti will be in the lineup for the season opening tournament along with freshman Zak Supelak.

Joey Krecic begins his final season ranked third in school history with a 74.6 career scoring average and is fourth in program history with 31 rounds of par or better. He won the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate as a sophomore and tied for eighth as a freshman.

Prince has been one of the steadiest golfers in the program over his first three seasons, posting a 75.1 average to rank eighth in program history. Last year, Prince ranked third on the team with a 74.6 average, which included a career-low round of 66 at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.

Anton Krecic was second on the team with a 74.3 average en route to earning second team All-Horizon League honors. He was also the medalist at the Horizon League Championship, winning the title with a birdie on the second playoff hole. Infanti helped solidify the bottom of CSU's lineup last year, which was his first season with the Vikings after he transferred from Baldwin-Wallace. He recorded a 75.6 scoring average, which included a second round 73 at the NCAA Regionals.

Supelak will be making his collegiate debut at the season opening event. He was a four-time state qualifier at Walsh Jesuit HS, leading the team to a fifth place finish at the state tournament last fall when he was an All-Ohio selection.

The Vikings return to action on Sept. 11-12 at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, which will take place at the Guyan CC in Huntington, W. Va.
