Blakely Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship; Krecic an Alternate

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jules Blakely (Westlake, Ohio), who will begin his freshman year at Cleveland State in August, qualifed for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday by sharing medalist honors at Shaker Heights C.C.

Blakely, who shot rounds of 73-70, shared medalist honors with Zach Mandry (69-74) as the duo shot 36 hole totals of 143 to earn two of the three available spots at the qualifier.

Blakely and Mandy, along with Rosswell Sinclair advance to the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship which will be played at Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles on August 14-20, 2017.

Blakely was a four-time all-conference performer at Westlake H.S., earning first team honors in each of his final three seasons. He won seven tournaments during his high school career.

Earlier this summer, senior Joey Krecic was named an alternate after tying for second place at Moraine CC in Dayton, Ohio. Krecic shot back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish with a 36 hole total of 146.

He was one of five players to tie for second place with a 146 total and went to a playoff where the five players played for the remaining two spots. Krecic played five playoff holes, making a par-four on the 10th hole to earn the second alternate spot.
