Vikings Lead After Day One of League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Cleveland State shot an opening round 300, led by Michael Balcar's one-under-par 71, and holds the first round lead at the Horizon League Championship which is being played at the par-72, 6,776-yard Mission Inn Resort El Campeon Course.

Balcar, who was named to the all-league first team last night, got off to a hot start with an eagle on the opening par-5 hole and used three birdies on the back nine to shoot a two-under-par 35 on the inward nine. He is the first round co-leader with Spencer Lendzion of Detroit.

Bailey, the league's Player of the Year in each of the last three seasons, birdied the par-5 first hole and had four birdies on the inward nine en route to a 34 as part of an opening round even-par 72.

CSU holds a three shot lead over Detroit (303), while Youngstown State is five shots back at 305. Valparaiso is in fourth place after a first round 309, while Green Bay (311), Wright State (313) and Oakland (328) round out the field.

Mitchell Moore shot a first round 78 and is tied for 15th place, while Brendan Byrne and Pat Luth are tied for 19th place after each shot a 79.

The second round of the league championship will be played on Saturday with the first group teeing off a 7:30 a.m.
