SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State men's basketball team enters this weekend's set of games looking to remain atop the Horizon League standings. After beginning #HLMBB play a perfect 9-0, the Vikes are looking to bounce back from suffering their first loss of league season against Wright State on Friday. Torrey Patton has scored 10-plus points in nine of his last 10 games, while Yahel Hill is coming off of a career day, pouring in a career-high 11 points on a career-best three triples against the Raiders on Saturday (Jan. 16). 

A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD…
Mark the second straight victory on an ESPN linear network. The Vikings, who competed agaisnt Wright State on ESPNU on Friday, Jan. 15, took down the Raiders in thrilling fashion, 66-64. Deante Johnson slammed the game-winning bucket off of a D'Moi Hodge assist with just under one second left to play. It would also maintain theVikes undefeated mark at the Wolstein Center this season.

THE CLEVELAND STATE/MILWAUKEE
Cleveland State comes into this weekend's pair of #HLMBB contests against Milwaukee riding a three-game winning streak over the Panthers. In their last meeting, Torrey Patton buried the game-winning three-pointer with 8.0 seconds left to play in regulation.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
The Milwaukee Panthers come into this weekend looking to bounce back from a two-game #HLMBB sweep last weekend at the hands of Purdue Fort Wayne. Milwaukee fell 81-72 on Jan. 15 and 81-74 on Jan. 16. DeAndrew Gholston is leading the way for the Panthers, appearing, and starting in, all nine games this season, scoring a team-best 13.3 points per game. C.J. Wilbourn is grabbing a team-high 5.0 rebounds per contest, while Te'Jon Lucas is dishing out 6.1 assists per game. After facing off against the Vikings this weekend, Milwaukee will remain on the road, heading to IUPUI on Jan. 29 and Jan. 30.

SWIPER NO SWIPING
The Vikings lead the Horizon League in steals per game, averaging 9.2 thefts per contest. Over the last five games, Cleveland State has recorded 10-or-more thefts three times, which included a season-high tying 14 steals at IUPUI on Jan. 2 and in back-to-back contests (Jan. 9 and Jan. 15). Over those five games, Cleveland State is averaging 9.6 steals per game.

TRE GOMILLION AKA MR. RELIABLE
Gomillion has started in every game of his Cleveland State career (45 starts). The junior has had a career season thus far, pouring in a career-high 23 points on a near-perfect 11-12 (.917) shooting from the floor on Dec. 27, 2020. His .917 shooting percentage puts the Augusta, Georgia, native in the record book, tying him with Jamal Jackson's .917 clip on 12/5/94 (also 11-12 from the field). Against Purdue Fort Wayne on Dec. 19, Gomillion contributed 16 points on a then-career-high 8-13 (.615) shooting from the floor. 

PATTON POURING IN THE POINTS
Senior Torrey Patton poured in 10-or-more points in a career-high nine-straight contests (Dec. 13-Jan. 16). Over those nine games, all wins for the Vikes, Patton averaged 15.2 points per game. His previous longest 10-plus streak was last season (six straight games). Over those nine games, Patton notched a season-high 19 points in a come-from-behind win over Youngstown State (Dec. 27).

RISING IN THE HORIZON (AS A TEAM)
Through 10 #HLMBB contest this season, the Vikings are ranked first in steals (9.20,  second in points allowed (65.9) and defensive field goal percentage (.397), third in margin of victory (3.2) and defensive field goal percentage (.292).

RISING IN THE HORIZON (INDIVIDUALLY)
Through 10 #HLMBB contests this season, Torrey Patton is ranked ninth in rebounds per game (7.7), ninth in field goal percentage (.491) and 16th in scoring (13.9). Deante Johnson is ranked third in blocks (1.2) and 16th in rebounds per game (6.0).

OVERALL HORIZON LEAGUE RANKINGS
Torrey Patton is ranked eighth in rebounds (7.8), while Deante Johnson is third in blocks (1.4) and 13th in rebounds (6.2), while D'Moi Hodge is third in steals per game (1.9).

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Cleveland State will appear on ESPN2 on Jan. 22 against Milwaukee. The Vikings faced off against Wright State on ESPNU last Friday, Jan. 15, marking the team's first regular season game on an ESPN linear network since the 2014-15 season. Cleveland State appeared on an ESPN linear network three times that season: Feb. 13 at Detroit Mercy (ESPNU), Feb. 20 at Green Bay (ESPN2) and Feb. 27 vs. Valparaiso (ESPNU). 

UP NEXT
Cleveland State will remain at the Wolstein Center, as Green Bay comes to town next weekend (Jan. 29, Jan. 30). Tipoff for both games will be at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on an ESPN streaming platform, as well as on 1420-WHK, 102.5 FM and whkradio.com.

On Wednesday, Jan. 22, the Vikings took down Eastern Illinois, pouring in a then season-high 112 points, to cap off a seven-game winning streak. The seven-game winning streak was only the second-longest winning streak that season, as the Vikes went on an incredible 14-game streak, which included two NCAA Tournament wins.
