GAME RECAP
CHICAGO -- Torrey Patton scored a career-high 22 points, but UIC used a late 7-2 run in the second half to pull away from Cleveland State on its way to a 71-66 Horizon League victory over the Vikings on Saturday in Credit Union1 Arena.
Cleveland State trailed 60-54 with 5:46 to play in the second half before rallying to tie the game.
Craig Beaudion converted a pair of free throws and Algevon Eichelberger scored inside to bring the Vikings to within 60-58 at the 4:15 mark of the second half.
Cleveland State tied the contest at 60-60 when Patton hit a jumper in the lante at the 3:56 mark of the second period.
Godwin Boahen, who led the Flames with 21 points, responded with a three-pointer to break the tie and give UIC a 63-60 lead.
Patton answered with a pair of free throws to bring the Vikings to within 63-62 with 2:51 to play in regulation, but a layup from Marcus Ottey and a pair of free throws from Jordan Blount pushed the lead to 67-62 at the 2:00 mark of the second.
The Vikings cut the lead to three on two occasions, but the Flames responded each time with a basket.
Patton finished the game 9-of-15 from the floor and he also added six rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead the Vikings.
Cleveland State also received a career-high 15 points and a career-high nine assists from Beaudion, while Eichelberger added 13 points.
Cleveland State returns to action on Monday (Dec. 30) when it visits IUPUI for a 7 p.m. Horizon League game.
