Williams Tabbed Horizon League Freshman of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Rashad Williams of the Cleveland State University men's basketball team was named the Nike Horizon League Freshman of the Week as announced by the League office Monday afternoon.

It is the second straight week in which a Viking has been honored by the League as Tyree Appleby, a four-time Freshman of the Week last season, was named Player of the Week Dec. 10.

Williams put forth a record-breaking performance in nearly leading CSU to an upset win at Illinois State.

Williams had a breakout performance Sunday and reset the standard for most ever three-pointers in a game by a Viking freshman. The rookie had a season-high 25 points in just 25 minutes off the bench, producing a highly efficient shooting performance. He hit 8-of-12 from the field, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, while making both of his free throw attempts. He also added a trio of rebounds against the Redbirds. Williams ranked second in points over the past week among all Horizon League players and also tied for the most made three-pointers despite CSU only having one game.

Williams is one of just two League players to hit seven triples in a game this season. He has hit double figures in scoring in back-to-back games and has five such efforts on the season.

Cleveland State closes non-conference action this Wednesday, Dec. 19, when it welcomes Niagara at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the CSU women's program.
