Appleby Named Horizon League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Tyree Appleby of the Cleveland State University men's basketball team was named the Nike Horizon League Player of the Week as announced by the League office Monday afternoon.

The four-time HL Rookie of the Week from last season is the first Viking to take home Player of the Week honors since the 2014-15 season.

Appleby led Cleveland State to a pair of victories this past week as non-conference play winds down.

Appleby began the week with a performance to remember against Bowling Green. He flirted with a triple-double as he finished with career highs in points (37) and rebounds (8) while adding eight assists. His efficiency was equally as impressive as he made 13-of-19 from the field, including 7-of-9 from downtown, with both his field goal total and three-point field goal total representing new career bests.

Appleby's 37 points were the most by a Viking since Norris Cole had 41 in a February 2011 contest. His effort also helped CSU break the single-game school record for 3-pointers as the Vikings finished the game with 15.

Appleby ended the week by netting his first collegiate double-double as he posted 12 points and a career-high 10 assists along with a career-high tying four steals.

For the week, Appleby averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 9.0 assists and 2.5 steals while committing only four total turnovers. He shot above 50% from the field (18-31) and from three (9-17) on the week.

Appleby ranks sixth in the in the League in scoring (16.5) and is among the top five in assists (5.3) and steals (1.7). He also ranks among the top 10 in field goal percentage (.447), free throw percentage (.771) and three-pointers per game (2.4).

Cleveland State is taking some time off for final exams before resuming action Sunday, Dec. 16, at Illinois State.
