Tommy Strine Named Director of Basketball Operations at CSU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head men's basketball coach Dennis Felton has announced the hiring of Tommy Strine as the program's Director of Basketball Operations.

"We're happy to have Tommy join our CSU Basketball family," Felton said. "His experiences at American University make him very experienced at the position and he has a great command for the responsibilities involved. Tommy also embraces the demands that come with this important position and he provides the requisite enthusiasm, relentless energy, and organizational and people skills to make a tremendous contribution to our efforts in building a Championship program."

Strine arrives at CSU after serving as the Director of Basketball Operations at American University for the last three years where he was the primary day-to-day administrator within the basketball office, coordinating team travel, managing the budget and equipment needs and assisting with video and summer camps.

During the 2016-17 season, Strine worked with Basketball Travelers to coordinate every aspect of American's international trip to Australia.

Prior to his time at American, Strine spent one year as the video coordinator at Richmond where he oversaw all video tasks, helping the team advance to the quarterfinals of the NIT as one of the top four seeds in the tournament.

Before his stop with the Spiders, Strine coached at Marion High School in Indiana where he led the tradition-rich JV team and was an assistant coach on the varsity team. His responsibilities included player development, scouting and game-plan preparation. Marion was ranked in the top-10 in Indiana's AP poll and finished the season with 18 wins. Strine helped coach and develop McDonald's All-American and former Indiana standoutJames Blackmon Jr., while at Marion.

He began his coaching career at the President of Teams for Spiece Basketball in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he oversaw logistics and development of over 100 AAU teams. In addition, he coaches teams at all age levels, while also running camps and providing individual workouts to the top players in Indiana. Strine has worked camps throughout the country and also has experience working with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBDL.

Strine played one year of college basketball at Anderson University before injuries cut his career short. He scored more than 1,600 points in high school, ranking in the top-100 on the Indiana high school all-time scoring list.

He is a 2014 graduate of Fort Wayne.
