Tyree Appleby Named to Horizon League All-Freshman Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State guard Tyree Appleby was one of five players voted onto the Horizon League All-Freshman Team which was announced on Wednesday afternoon as voted upon by the League's 10 head coaches, sports information directors and select media.

Appleby has appeared in 30 games this year with 21 starts. He ranks 20th in the Horizon League in scoring with 11.3 points per game and is also sixth in assists (3.8) and steals (1.3), while adding 2.2 rebounds.

A four-time Horizon League Freshman of the Week, Appleby set career-highs in points (25) and assists (9) in a win at UIC on Feb. 10 and dished out at least six assists in eight games this year.

Appleby has scored 339 points this year, the 10th most by a freshman in a season in program history. He is also just the fifth freshman in CSU history to record 100 assists in a season with his 115 assists the fourth most among all freshman in program history. In addition, Appleby's 40 steals are the seventh most by a CSU freshman for a season, while his 87 free throw makes are tied for the third most by a Viking freshman.

Appleby and the eighth-seeded Vikings open play in the Horizon League Championship with a first round game against ninth-seeded Youngstown State on Friday (March 2) at 8:00 pm at Little Caesars Arena. The winner will advance to face top-seeded Northern Kentucky in a second round game at 8:00 pm on Saturday (March 3).
