CLEVELAND, Ohio -- David Payne, who spent last season at Malcolm X College in Chicago, has enrolled at Cleveland State University and will join the men's basketball program.

"David is a great athlete who brings good size, physicality and experience," head coach Dennis Felton said. "He had an accomplished career at Malcom X Community College and is extremely serious and motivated. I look forward to working with him and watching his teammates lead him to get up to speed with what it means to be a Viking."

Last year, Payne averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds, helping Malcolm X College to 18 wins. He posted 20 double-figure scoring games, including seven 20-point contests. Payne scored a career-high 28 points on three different occasions and was named the Region IV Player of the Week the first weekend of the season. An All-Academic selection, Payne graudated in 2017 with honors.

Payne spent his first season of college at Lewis & Clark CC, averaging 6.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 29 games, including six starts. He was named a top NJCAA Incoming Freshman in 2015.
