Algevon Eichelberger Joins Cleveland State Basketball Program

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Algevon Eichelberger (Saginaw, Mich.), a former top-50 ranked power forward in the country who spent his freshman year at DePaul, will transfer to Cleveland State and join the men's basketball program beginning with the fall 2017-18 semester.

The 6-foot-8 Eichelberger will sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will then have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

"We are very excited to have Algevon join our program," head coach Dennis Felton said. "He is big, physical and long, plays with aggression and has good offensive feel. I love the reckless abandon and the infectious passion he plays with.

"Considering where we are starting with our new program, in a sense, we are going to have not one, but two new and challenging start-ups over the next two seasons. We are starting a new program under new leadership this year and after this year's six seniors graduate, we will start 2018 with a new and inexpereinced team. It will be a tremendous help to have Algevon learn our program this year and be ready to step into a leadership role as a third-year sophomore for the 2018-19 season and I believe he is ready to embrace that opportunity."

Eichelberger appeared in 26 games last year for DePaul as a reserve forward, averaging 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game with eight blocked shots. He shot .762 (16-21) from the field, playing just under eight minutes per game.

A three-star recruit out of the 2016 high school class, Eichelberger averaged 10.8 points and 7.1 rebounds as a junior at Prolific Prep in California. He began his senior year of high school at La Lumiere in Indiana before leaving to finish his last high school season at Saginaw H.S. in Michigan, leading the squad to an 18-6 record. As a sophomore at Saginaw H.S., he averaged 13.0 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.

Eichelberger was ranked 50th among the nation's power forwards by ESPN.com and 65th by 247Sports.com.
