HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Vikings hit seven of their first eight shots to race out to a 14-2 lead just over four minutes into the game.

  • YSU took its largest lead of the first half (31-24) with 2:01 on the clock, but Word answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to four points (31-27) and the Penguin lead remained four points (33-29) at halftime.
  • The Penguins opened the second half with the first 11 points of the half to open up a 44-29 lead.
  • A Wright jumper with 9:37 to play brought the lead under double figures (53-44) and he hit a three-pointer on CSU's next possession to bring the Vikings within six (53-47).
  • A pair of free throws from Flannigan pulled CSU within one point (58-57) with 4:30 left, but the Penguins used five straight points to open up a 63-57 lead with 2:46 left on a three-pointer from Brett Frantz.
  • The Vikings pulled back within two points (66-64) on a Flannigan jumper and after YSU split a pair of free throws, the Vikings had one final chance, but a three-pointer from Word was off the mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • YSU held a slim 32-31 advantage on the boards, while the Vikings grabbed 12 offensive rebounds to six for the Penguins.

  • The Penguins made five three's, but were just 10-of-19 at the charity stripe.
