GREEN BAY, Wis. – Cleveland State concluded the first half of Horizon League play with an 83-73 setback at Green Bay on Monday night at the Resch Center.
The Vikings fell to 6-15 overall and 2-7 in the League, while Green Bay moved to 12-8 overall and 6-2 in the HL.
STAT LEADERS
- Rob Edwards scored a game-high 28 points for his 11th career 20-point game. He hit 8-of-18 from the field, including five of eight three-pointers and added five rebounds.
- Bobby Word scored 19 points, hitting four three's.
- Demonte Flannigan posted six points and six rebounds, while Derek Sloan tallied four points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
- Kasheem Thomas finished with seven points, three rebounds and two assists, while Anthony Wright and Jibri Blount both had two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edwards scored the first eight points for CSU as the Vikings opened up an eight point lead (16-8) midway through the first half.
- The Phoenix answered with an 8-2 run to slice the deficit to two points (18-16) at the eight minute mark and force a CSU timeout.
- The Vikings responded with a Word layup and dunk from Jibri Blount to push the lead back to six points (22-16), but Green Bay used a 9-3 spurt to knot the contest at 25-25 with just under five minutes left in the first half.
- Green Bay led at halftime, 36-34, and opened up a 55-49 lead on a three-pointer from Warren Jones with 11:11 to play.
- But CSU used a driving layup from Nelson Maxwell and three-point play from Edwards to cut the deficit to one point (55-54) with under 10 minutes to play, but the Phoenix responded with 11 straight points to open up a 66-54 lead with 6:48 to play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Green Bay held a slim 41-38 advantage on the boards, but received 52 points from its bench.
- The Phoenix hit 25-of-37 at the free throw line as CSU was called for 31 fouls, the second most in a game this year for the Vikings.
- The Vikings made 10 steals.
- CSU finished 23-of-63 from the floor, while the Phoenix went 27-of-54.
- The Vikings had 23 second chance points with 18 offensive rebounds.
