Vikings Top Lake Erie to Stay Perfect at Home

CLEVELAND, OhioRob Edwards scored 25 points and Cleveland State remained perfect at home this year with a 79-62 win over Lake Erie on Monday night in the Wolstein Center.

The Vikings improved to 4-7 this year.

STAT LEADERS

  • Edwards scored 25 points, hitting 4-of-7 from three-point and 5-of-6 from three-point. It was his seventh career 20-point
  • Demonte Flannigan hit 6-of-9 from the field and scored 12 points, while Jibri Blount came off the bench and scored 11 points.
  • Bobby Word finished with seven points and five rebounds and Kasheem Thomas posted six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Kenny Carpenter added six points and three rebounds, while Jamarcus Hairston scored five points and Derek Sloan grabbed four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • CSU built an 11-point lead (21-11) at the 11:29 mark of the first half on a Jibri Blount three-pointer.
  • The Vikings extended the lead to as many as 17 points (35-18) with 4:29 left in the first half on a Bobby Word three-pointer.
  • Lake Erie used a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to slice its deficit to nine points (37-28), but a Flannigan layup gave CSU an 11-point lead (39-28) at halftime.
  • The Storm got within six points (47-41) with 13:41 to play in the game, but Edwards capped a 15-6 CSU run with a layup to push the lead to 62-47 with just under seven minutes to play.
  • A jumper from Blount with 3:12 to play extended the lead to 19 points (71-52).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Vikings improved to 4-0 at home this year, their best start at home since they opened 5-0 in 2012-13.
  • CSU made 15-of-16 at the free throw line for a season-high .938 percentage.
  • The Viking bench out-scored Lake Erie's, 27-19.
  • The Vikings forced 16 Lake Erie turnovers, while posting seven steals.
  • CSU held a 39-29 advantage on the boards and gave up just six offensive rebounds.

  • CSU concludes its non-conference schedule with an 8:00 pm contest at Belmont on Thursday (Dec. 22).
