JONESBORO, Ark. – Cleveland State closed out its four game road swing with a 78-51 setback at Arkansas State on Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.
The Vikings fell to 1-5 this year, while ASU improved to 7-1.
STAT LEADERS
- Demonte Flannigan led the Vikings with 14 points and six rebounds. Flannigan was playing in his second game of the year and made his first start of the season.
- Kenny Carpenter scored 10 points and added five rebounds and two assists.
- Jibri Blount scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
- Kasheem Thomas finished with six points, two assists and two steals, while Terrell Hales also added two steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSU jumped out to a 7-3 lead early on a pair of Flannigan baskets and a Blount three-pointer.
- Arkansas State answered with a 13-2 run to take a 16-9 lead wat the 8:26 mark of the first half.
- The Vikings used consecutive baskets from Carpenter to pull within 16-13 at the seven minute mark, but the Red Wolves closed the half on a 16-4 run to take a 32-17 lead at halftime.
CSU cut the lead to 11 points (34-23) early in the second half on a three-pointer from Bobby Word, but ASU would extend the lead to 49-27 at the 13:42 mark en route to the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Red Wolves received one vote in this week's AP Top-25 poll.
- CSU finished 18-of-46 (.391) from the floor, while ASU shot 27-of-52 (.519) from the floor, including 17-of-28 (.607) in the second half.
- The Red Wolves held a 31-29 advantage on the boards, while the ASU bench posted a 42-20 advantage.
- Both teams finished with eight steals.
UP NEXT
- CSU returns home to host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday (Dec. 3) at 12:00 pm at Quicken Loans Arena.
- It will be the first of two straight games at The Q for the Vikings with CSU also hosting Western Michigan at 7:00 pm on Wednesday (Dec. 7).
