Cleveland State Closes Regular Season by Facing New Foes

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University fencing team closes the regular season this weekend with its fifth competition of the past four weekends.

The Vikings will take part in Northwestern's Winter NU Duals Saturday, Feb. 1. Competition is set to get underway at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

The CSU men and women will both face six opponents, with five of the six being the same across the two genders.

CSU will open the day by facing Stanford (9:00 a.m.) before the men take on Princeton and the women face Fairleigh Dickinson (10:10 a.m.). The Vikings will then take on North Carolina at 12:30 p.m. before facing Incarnate Word (3:20 p.m.), Air Force (4:40 p.m.) and UC San Diego (5:50 p.m.) consecutively to conclude the day.

The Princeton men are ranked sixth nationally while four of the CSU men's other five foes are receiving votes nationally, led by Stanford, the first team outside the top 10.

The Viking women will face three foes that are receiving votes nationally—Stanford, North Carolina and UC San Diego.

Cleveland State will be facing each of these seven opponents for the first time this season.

The Vikings had a highly successful weekend at Notre Dame's DeCicco Duals last weekend. The CSU men went 6-1 while the women were 5-2, with all three losses coming to top-10 foes. The Viking men had the second-best record of any team at the event while the CSU women had the third-best mark of any female team.

After this weekend, Cleveland State will next be in action on the fourth weekend of February at the Midwest Conference Championships at Ohio State.
