Cleveland State Combines for 13 Wins at CWRU

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University fencing teams racked up at least a dozen wins for the second straight dual competition as the Vikings continued their season Saturday at the Case Western Duals.

The CSU men were perfect for the second straight event, posting a 7-0 mark Saturday, while the Viking women contributed a 6-1 record for the event.

The Cleveland State men claimed victories over Oakland (26-1), Xavier (26-1), Case Western Reserve (26-1), CMU (21-6), MSU (24-3), Michigan (17-10) and Bowling Green (27-0).

The CSU women notched victories over Oakland (20-4), Xavier (18-9), Case Western Reserve (20-5), CMU (23-1) and MSU (16-6). The squad then dropped a heartbreaking 14-13 matchup to Michigan after the Vikings had claimed a win in the meeting between the squads in Cleveland at the end of October. CSU rebounded well by finishing the day with a 23-3 win over Bowling Green.

The foil unit for the Viking men was nearly flawless as they tallied 61 of a possible 63 victories on the day, shutting out six of their seven opponents. The epee unit led the CSU women by collecting 52 wins against just 11 setbacks on the day.

Cleveland State will resume action after the New Year at the Detroit Mercy Invitational Jan. 12.
