DETROIT, Mich. – The Cleveland State University fencing team returned to action after the holiday break by competing at the Detroit Mercy Invitational Sunday inside Calihan Hall.

The CSU men went 3-2 in dual competition while the women's team went 1-4.

The Viking men topped the host Titans (19-8), knocked off Michigan State (19-8), dropped a heartbreaker to Wayne State (13-14), fell to Michigan (11-16) and finished with a comfortable win over Oakland (24-3).

The CSU women dropped their first four duals to Detroit (10-14), Michigan State (9-18), Wayne State (6-18) and Michigan (7-20) before finishing strong with a win over Oakland (15-4).

The CSU men were led by their foil team, which posted 35 victories, while the epee unit contributed 32 points.

The CSU women garnered 20 victories from their epee unit while the foil group racked up 18.

Cleveland State will be right back in action next weekend as it travels east. The Vikings will take part in the Army West Point Duals Saturday, Jan. 19, and the Vassar Invitational Sunday, Jan. 20.
