Vikings Combine for Seven Wins at OSU Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Cleveland State University fencing team competed in dual action for the first time this season Sunday at the OSU Duals inside French Field House.

The seven-man CSU men's squad went 4-2 on the day. The Viking men claimed wins over Michigan State (14-13) and Bowling Green (19-3). After falling to the host Buckeyes (5-22) and Indiana (13-14), Cleveland State rebounded to defeat Iowa (20-5) and Xavier (18-8) to end the day.

Despite bringing just four student-athletes, the CSU women's team still posted a 3-3 record at the event by winning its final two matchups of the day. The Viking women fell to Michigan State (6-21), beat Bowling Green (8-4) and then lost to Ohio State (2-25) and Indiana (8-14). CSU then beat Iowa (11-6) and Xavier (12-2) to close the day.

The epee group led the CSU men by claiming 41 of the 89 Viking points. Sophomores Burton Hirschman and Jonah Kasallis contributed to the epee effort as did freshman Zachary Clark.

The foil unit led the CSU women by winning 28 points on the day. Senior Sarah Mok and freshman Emma Hartlaub contributed to the unit's success.

Cleveland State will resume action at the Elite Invitational Duals, hosted by Ohio State, on the first weekend of November.
