Patriot League Cancels Balance of Spring Sports Seasons

Move comes after Lafayette suspended its seasons through April 5

EASTON, Pa. -- The Patriot League Council of Presidents announced on Thursday morning that it has decided to cancel all spring athletic practices and competitions through the end of the 2019-20 academic year.

This move follows Lafayette College's decision on Wednesday to suspend all College events, including athletic contests, through April 5 while instituting plans for remote teaching and learning for the two weeks following spring break (March 23 through April 5). While the Patriot League's decision affects all athletic contests this spring, the College is expecting to resume in-person classes when students return to campus on April 6 through the remainder of the semester.

"I recognize these kinds of situations require some incredibly difficult decisions," said Lafayette Director of Athletics Sherryta Freeman. "At this time, I am most concerned with the well being of our student-athletes and coaches and helping them manage during this trying time."
