Garrett Appointed to Greater Cleveland Sports Commission Board

CLEVELAND – Cleveland State University Director of Athletics Scott Garrett has been appointed a member of the Board of Trustees for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.

"We're excited to have Scott Garrett join our Board of Trustees," said David Gilbert, President and CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. "Scott's experience serving at many collegiate institutions in an athletic capacity, aligns well with our expertise in hosting NCAA Championships. Cleveland State University is a great partner and through Scott's addition, we look forward to continuing to strengthen this relationship."

Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is one of the most distinguished sports commissions in the country, effectively leveraging sporting events and activities to further economic development in Northeast Ohio.  Since 2000, the GCSC is responsible for attracting nearly 200 sporting events, which provide more than $806 million in economic activity, to Northeast Ohio.

Greater Cleveland Sports Commission helped bring the Major League Baseball All-Star Game to Cleveland in 2019 and this spring Cleveland will host the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships and the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.

Cleveland is also the future home to the 2021 National Football League Draft, the 2022 National Basketball Association All-Star Game and the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Final Four.

As a member of the board, Garrett will assist the organization in achieving its efforts in attracting, creating, managing and enhancing significant sporting and competitive events through Cleveland and northeast Ohio.
