2018-19 CSU Athletics Top 10 Moments | #6 – Academic Excellence

Cleveland State student-athletes continued to excel in the classroom as Vikings student-athletes had another outstanding year academically.

For the 25th consecutive semester, Cleveland State student-athletes produced a departmental grade point average of at least 3.00. The 340 Cleveland State student-athletes combined to record a 3.314 grade point average in the spring of 2019, which marks the second consecutive term above a combined 3.30 GPA.

A total of 52.6 percent of Cleveland State student-athletes were recognized on the Dean's List, which marks the fourth consecutive semester that over half of all student-athletes were so honored.

Additionally, 47 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade point average during the spring semester.

During the 2018-19 academic year, 23 Cleveland State student-athletes were named to their respective Horizon League All-Academic team.

For the seventh time in the last nine years, all of Cleveland State University's aid-awarding athletic programs earned a multiyear Academic Progress Rate score above the NCAA minimum threshold according to the most-recent data compiled. In fact, each of the Vikings 17 sports programs registered a multiyear APR score at least 18 points above the NCAA's required minimum of 930 during the current cohort.

Additionally, eight of Cleveland State's 17 aid-awarding athletics programs recorded a multiyear APR score above the NCAA Division I national average for those sports, and three programs — women's basketball, women's golf and cross country — registered perfect multiyear APR scores of 1,000. This is the 14th consecutive year that the cross country program has posted a perfect APR score, and the third straight year that women's basketball has accomplished the feat.
