CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bolstered by Horizon League Championships in volleyball, men's golf and men's tennis and runner-up finishes from men's swimming and diving and men's basketball, the Cleveland State Department of Athletics finished as the runner-up in the 2017-18 McCafferty Cup Standings that were announced by the Horizon League on Tuesday morning.

It is the highest finish for the Vikings since winning the McCafferty Trophy following the 2012-13 season.

The CSU men's programs finished as the runner-up in the men's standings, while the Viking women tied for fifth in the women's standings.

The CSU volleyball team captured its third straight Horizon League championship this year, while the men's golf squad won its fifth straight League title.

The Vikings finished with 38.5 points to finish as the runner-up to Oakland which totaled 52.5 points. IUPUI was third with 35 points and was followed by Wright State (31), Youngstown State and Milwaukee (30), UIC (29.5), Green Bay (23.5), Northern Kentucky (13) and Detroit Mercy (7.5).

Named in honor of James J. McCafferty, who served as the conference's first commissioner from 1979-80, the McCafferty Trophy is awarded annually by the Horizon League to a member institution compiling the greatest number of performance points, based on its finish in the League's 19 championship sports.

For the sports of men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball, points are awarded based on combined regular season (60 percent) and championship (40 percent) finishes. For all other sports, points are based on performance in the League championships.
