A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • CSU (8-21, 5-11 HL) closes out the regular season with two road games this week, playing at Wright State on Monday (Feb. 19) at 7:30 pm and at Youngstown State on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 7:00 pm.
  • The Vikings split two games at home last week, knocking off Detroit Mercy and falling to Oakland on Senior Day.
  • Anthony Wright averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two games last week.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State (18-9, 10-6) will close out the regular season with a pair of road games this week, traveling to Wright State (Monday, February 19) and Youngstown State (Saturday, February 24).
  • Last time out, the Vikings split their games during their final homestand of the season, including a 71-60 victory over No. 19 Green Bay - their first win against the Phoenix since the 2009-10 season.
  • Redshirt senior Olivia Voskuhl scored her 1,000th career point against the Phoenix, joining Ashanti Abshaw and Khayla Livingston in the 1,000-point club - just the second time in program history that three members of the same team have scored 1,000+ points.

FENCING

  • Cleveland State will begin postseason action this weekend as it contests the Midwestern Conference Championships at Ohio State. The two-day event begins Saturday, Feb. 24.

WOMEN'S GOLF

  • The Vikings continue the spring season by competing at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 24-25) in Arizona.
  • CSU opened the season in early February, finishing as the runner-up of the Motor City Cup in Orlando, just one point behind Oakland.

MEN'S LACROSSE

  • Cleveland State continues a stretch of four straight away from home with two more games this week.
  • The Vikings face Air Force Friday, Feb. 23, at Denver before meeting No. 3 Denver Sunday, Feb. 25.
  • Cleveland State outshot both of its opponents this past week but came up short to Mercer, 10-9 (OT), and Bellarmine, 13-9.
  • The Vikings rallied from a four-goal deficit against Mercer and forced overtime with a goal with 12 seconds left in regulation.

SOFTBALL

  • CSU (7-2) continues its early season schedule with five games at the Belmont Tournament from Friday through Sunday (Feb. 24-26).
  • The Vikings play host Belmont on Friday, IPFW and North Dakota on Saturday and Tennessee State and North Dakota on Sunday.
  • CSU won all four games at the NC A&T Aggie Invitational over the weekend to extend its win streak to seven straight games.
  • Riley Ries hit .667 with a homer and six RBI in four games, while Mackenzie Joecken went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in nine innings of work.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State is set to host the Horizon League Championships this week. The four-day event begins Wednesday, Feb. 21.
  • Freshman Dominik Niedzialek has the fastest time among entries in the 200 backstroke while junior Jason van der Touw is among the top three fastest in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State is set to host the Horizon League Championships this week. The four-day event begins Wednesday, Feb. 21.
  • Junior Molly McNamara owns the fastest times entered in both butterfly events. Sophomore Gabriella Marinelli is among the top three fastest in the 100 and 200 freestyle.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • The Vikings (7-4) will return to the road this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure (Saturday, February 24) and Buffalo (Sunday, February 25) for a pair of dual matches.
  • Cleveland State went 2-1 during their homestand last weekend, picking up a pair of 7-0 sweeps over Bucknell and John Carroll.
  • Luke Phillips and Benjamin Slade both went 3-0 in singles play on the weekend, Phillips improving to 17-7 overall this year and Slade improving to 13-9.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • Cleveland State (3-7) will hit the road for a single match this weekend, traveling to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, February 24.
  • The Vikings notched back-to-back wins against Bowling Green and John Carroll last weekend, improving to 19-6 all-time when playing in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
  • The trio of Blanche Lenoan, Gaby Schoenberg and Jana Schober went 2-0 in singles play on the weekend, while Aleksandra Golawska and Isabella Spindler went 2-0 in doubles play.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

  • The Vikings will participate in the 2018 Horizon League Indoor Championship this weekend, traveling to Youngstown State for the two-day meet on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25.

WRESTLING

  • Cleveland State will take the upcoming week off from competition as it gears up for the EWL Championships on the first weekend of March.
  • The Vikings dropped a 31-11 decision to EWL regular-season champion Edinboro in their regular-season finale this past weekend.
  • Junior Evan Cheek won by fall at 141 pounds while Ryan Ford and Georgio Poullas also picked up wins for the Vikings.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Riley Ries | Jr. | Softball
Ries hit .667 (6-9) to help the Vikings go 4-0 at the NC A&T Aggie Invitational, extending CSU's win streak to seven straight. She had two runs, a double and a homer in four games and drove in seven runs, while recording a 1.111 slugging percentage. She had a hit in every game, including a 3-for-4 performance with two runs and four RBI in a win over host NC A&T.

Evan Cheek | Jr. | Wrestling
Won his fifth straight EWL match with a fall against Edinboro.

Mackenzie Joecken | Sr. | Softball
Went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in nine innings at the NC A&T Aggie Invitational.

Luke Phillips | Fr. | Men's Tennis
Went 3-0 in singles play over the weekend, including a win at the No. 1 spot vs. John Carroll.

Jana Schober | Sr. | Women's Tennis
Returned from injury to go 2-0 over the weekend, clinching CSU's win over Bowling Green with a win at No. 4 singles.

Olivia Voskuhl | Sr. | Women's Basketball
Reached 1,000 career points in CSU's win over nationally-ranked Green Bay.

Anthony Wright | Sr. | Men's Basketball
Averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in CSU's two games last week.
