A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

2018 GIVING DAY

  • Cleveland State's Giving Day will take place on Feb. 20 from 12:00 am until 11:55 pm. This is an online fundraising event for CSU alumni and friends to support specific colleges within the University, athletics or particular programs.
  • Last year, the Department of Athletics had a strong showing on Giving Day, raising more than $95,000 from 776 donors. Every gift helps enhance the experience of our more than 350 student-athletes in our 18 NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports.
  • As always, we appreciate your support of CSU athletics. Thank you for considering a donation to help CSU athletics on Giving Day.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State (7-20, 4-10 HL) closes its home slate with a pair of games this week, hosting Detroit Mercy on Wednesday (Feb. 14) and Oakland on Friday (Feb. 16). Both games will begin at 7:00 pm with Friday's game serving as Senior Day. CSU's six seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
  • The Vikings split a pair of games last week, falling at IUPUI on Thursday and winning at UIC, 86-78, on Saturday to snap the Flames seven game win streak.
  • Tyree Appleby averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 assists in the two games, including career-highs in points (25) and assists (9) at UIC.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State (17-8, 9-5 HL) will return home for its final homestand of the 2017-18 season this week, hosting No. 20/17 Green Bay on Thursday, February 15 and Milwaukee on Saturday, February 17.
  • Last time out the Vikings split their games at UIC (W, 64-42) and IUPUI (L, 94-56), closing out a four-game roadswing. 
  • Against the Flames, redshirt senior Khayla Livingston set a program record for career three-pointers, as she tallied five on the game to finish with 218 career three-pointers. Livingston enters this week's homestand with 219 three-pointers.

WOMEN'S GOLF

  • The Vikings are back in action at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Feb. 24-25.
  • CSU opened the spring season in Orlando last week, taking second in the Motor City Cup, a match play tournament with Oakland at Detroit Mercy.
  • The Vikings finished with 24 points, one point behind Oakland.

MEN'S LACROSSE

  • Cleveland State (0-2) will split its time at home and on the road this week. The Vikings host Mercer on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 7:00 pm before heading to Bellarmine this Saturday, Feb. 17, at 1:00 pm.
  • The Vikings dropped their second straight game to a Big Ten opponent this past weekend, falling 15-5 at Michigan.
  • Sophomore Zach Whitenack scored two goals for the second straight game after not scoring during his freshman campaign.

SOFTBALL

  • CSU (3-2) hits the road for four games at the NC A&T Tournament this weekend (Feb. 16-18) with Maryland Eastern-Shore, Howard and host NC A&T.
  • The Vikings went 3-2 at the CSU Dome Tournament over the weekend, winning their final three games.
  • Macy Kaisk hit .538 with two home runs and six RBI, while Riley Ries and Kait Gairing had home runs.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State is gearing up for the Horizon League Championships, which it will host Feb. 21-24.
  • A limited number of Vikings took part in the Ohio State Winter Invitational this past weekend.
  • Sophomore Austin Spruill set new career bests in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke en route to top-10 finishes in both events.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State is gearing up for the Horizon League Championships, which it will host Feb. 21-24.
  • A limited number of Vikings took part in the Ohio State Winter Invitational this past weekend.
  • Freshman Shaw Barney posted career bests in three events on the weekend--the 100 backstroke, the 100 butterfly and the 200 breaststroke.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • After a brief stint on the road last weekend, the Vikings (5-3) will return home for a trio of matches this weekend, hosting Butler on Friday, February 16 and Bucknell and John Carroll on Sunday, February 18.
  • Last time out, the Vikings snapped a five-match winstreak with a tough 4-3 loss at Ball State.
  • Nico Mostardi enters the week with a perfect 7-0 No. 1 singles record this spring, as he has won 12 straight matches dating back to the fall season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • Cleveland State (1-7) will close out their five-match homestand this weekend, hosting Bowling Green and John Carroll in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 17.
  • Last weekend, head coach Brian Etzkin picked up his 200th career victory with the women's team, becoming just the second current Horizon League coach to reach the milestone at their current school.
  • Aleksandra Gblawska went 2-0 at No. 3 singles on the weekend, posting her 60th career victory to move into 10th place on the CSU Singles Wins List.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

  • Cleveland State will compete in its final meet before the Indoor Horizon League Championships this weekend, taking part in the Kent State Tune Up on Saturday, February 17.
  • Last time out the Vikings competed against top tier competition at the Spire Invitational, with Anna Brandt (1,000 Meter Run) and Hannah Gaskins (High Jump) both recording 14th place finishes to lead the Vikings.

WRESTLING

  • Cleveland State will close the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 17, when it hosts Edinboro in dual action at 1:00 pm.
  • A limited number of Vikings took part in a pair of opens this past weekend.
  • Junior Evan Cheek was the runner-up at 141 pounds at the Warriors Winter Open and sophomore Chris Morrow placed second at the JCU Open at 184 pounds.
     

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Macy Kaisk | So. | Softball
Kaisk helped the Vikings to three wins in five games at the CSU Dome Tournament over the weekend. She hit .538 (7-13) with three runs, two doubles, two homers and six RBI at the season opening tournament, playing in four games and  recording multiple hits in all four.

Set career-highs in points (25) and assists (9) to lead CSU to a win at UIC.

Evan Cheek | Jr. | Wrestling
Was the runner-up at 141 pounds at the Warriors Winter Open.

Brian Etzkin | Head Tennis Coach
Recorded his 200th career victory with the women's tennis team, becoming just the second current Horizon League coach to achieve the feat at their current school. Etzkin now has 200+ wins with the men's team and the women's team.

Aleksandra Golawska | Jr. | Women's Tennis
Went 2-0 at No. 3 singles over the weekend to record her 60th career victory. Golawska now ranks 10th on the CSU Singles Wins List as one of 10 Vikings all-time with 60+ singles wins on their career.

Jake Higgins | Fr. | Men's Lacrosse
Had a goal and an assist in Saturday's game at Michigan.

Khalya Livingston | Sr. | Women's Basketball
Broke the program record for career three-pointers and now has 218. She is one of two players in program history with 200 threes for a career.
