Cleveland State Student-Athletes Continue to Excel in Classroom

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The 2017 fall semester closed with resounding succees for the Cleveland State athletics teams in the classroom as CSU student-athletes earned a combined grade point average of 3.281 for the semester, one of the highest semester GPA's in department history.

The 10 CSU women's teams had a cumulative GPA of 3.400 for the semester, led by the women's fencing team, which had a 3.972 GPA and the women's golf program who posted a 3.660 GPA as a team. The women's soccer team was right behind with a 3.599 GPA, while the women's tennis program (3.569), softball team (3.518) and cross country/track and field team (3.503) also posted GPA's of 3.500 or better.

The cumulative GPA of the eight men's teams was 3.085, highlighted by the men's tennis team, which sported a 3.662 GPA, while men's lacrosse (3.454) and men's golf (3.360) were close behind.

A total of 13 out of CSU's 18 sports had cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or higher for the semester.

Entering the spring 2018 semester, CSU student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.247.

A total of 35 student-athletes earned 4.00 GPA's during the fall semester:

Women's Soccer: Katie Bainbridge, Carly Cerny, Toni Dickson, Stacie Morris, McKenna Vento, Danielle Sowinski, Jenna Prathapa, Kailah Ransom

Softball: Sydney Bajusz

Women's Swimming & Diving: Jamie VanDerwerker, Michaela Bargardi, Claudia Zido, Erica Henrichsen, Gracyn McQueary

Women's Track & Field: Karen Kosik, Lauren Zawie
