A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • The Vikings (4-14, 1-4 HL) return to action with three games this week, starting with a 7:30 pm contest at Northern Kentucky on Monday (Jan. 15).
  • CSU returns home to host League newcomer IUPUI on Thursday (Jan. 18) at 7:00 pm and UIC on Saturday (Jan. 20) at 3:30 pm.
  • The Vikings dropped a pair of games last week, falling at the buzzer at Detroit Mercy on Wednesday and at Oakland on Friday.
  • Stefan Kenic scored a career-high 15 points at UDM, while Tyree Appleby averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 assists in the two games.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State (11-6, 3-3) will split its time at home and on the road this week, closing out a three-game roadswing at Northern Kentucky on Monday, January 15 and returning home to host Youngstown State on Saturday, January 20.
  • The Vikings dropped a close game at Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon and fell at nationally-ranked Green Bay on Saturday.
  • Entering the week, Ashanti Abshaw leads the Horizon League averaging 2.8 steals per game, while Khayla Livingston is tops in free throw percentage (.891) and three-pointers made (2.5).

FENCING

  • Cleveland State opens second semester action this weekend with a pair of events.
  • The Vikings will host the CSU Duals, a team event, this Saturday, Jan. 20, before hosting the John Szent-Kiraly Open Sunday, Jan. 21.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will take this week off from competition before traveling to Oakland next weekend.
  • CSU won all five of its dual matchups this past weekend, defeating IUPUI and UIC twice each and also knocking off Wright State.
  • Sophomore DJ Arslanian had five first-place finishes, combining individual and relay events, and three runner-up efforts on the weekend.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will take this week off from competition before traveling to Oakland next weekend.
  • CSU went 4-1 in its dual matchups this past weekend, defeating IUPUI twice, splitting with UIC and defeating Wright State once.
  • Junior Molly McNamara won all four individual events she entered this past weekend while sophomore Chuchu Yang won three individual events for CSU.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • The Vikings will begin their spring season this weekend, hitting the road for a pair of contests against No. 2 Ohio State (Saturday, January 20) and Notre Dame (Sunday, January 21).
  • Cleveland State has five returning letterwinners from last season and two freshmen that began their collegiate careers in the fall.
  • During the fall season, the trio of sophomore Nico Mostardi (12 wins), and freshmen Matthew Terry (12) and Luke Phillips (10) all combined for double-digit singles wins.

WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

  • Cleveland State will continue its indoor season at the Tiffin Dragon Open on Saturday, January 20.
  • Last time out, Chan'lier Myers recorded Cleveland State's best finish at the Doug Raymond Invitational, placing third in the 400 meter dash, while Hannah Gaskins placed fourth in the high jump and Briah Owens placed sixth in the 60 meter dash.

WRESTLING

  • Cleveland State opens Eastern Wrestling League action this Friday, Jan. 19, when it welcomes Rider at 6:00 pm.
  • Five of the six Vikings that competed at the Purple Raider Open this past weekend placed in the event.
  • Junior Evan Cheek won the title at 141 pounds, posting bonus-point wins in all four of his matches. Three of his four wins came against Big Ten opponents.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Molly McNamara | Jr. | Women's Swimming
McNamara won all four individual events she competed in ove the weekend, helping CSU to a 4-1 dual mark. She won the 200 fly and 200 IM on Friday and was also on the winning 400 medley relay team. On Saturday, she won back-to-back events, taking the 100 fly and the 400 IM, which she swam for the first time this year.

Tyree Appleby | Fr. | Men's Basketball
Tied his career-high with seven assists in CSU's games at Detroit Mercy and Oakland last weekend.

DJ Arslanain | So. | Men's Swimming
Had five first-place finishes, combining individual and relay events, and three runner-up efforts on the weekend.

Evan Cheek | Jr. | Wrestling
Won the title at 141 pounds at the Purple Raider Open.
