A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • The Vikings return to action for two games this week, playing at Rutgers on Tuesday (Nov. 14) at 7:00 pm and hosting Coppin State for the home opener on Friday (Nov. 17) at 7:00 pm.
  • CSU opened the season with a 67-57 setback at Akron in the NE Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Classic on Saturday night, which marked the first game for CSU head coach Dennis Felton.
  • Kenny Carpenter notched his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while Tyree Appleby scored 13 points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • Cleveland State will continue its three-game homestand to begin the 2017-18 season this week, hosting Eastern Michigan (Thursday, November 16) and Marshall (Sunday, November 19).
  • Last time out, the Vikings dropped a 76-64 contest to Ball State in the season opener.
  • Ashanti Abshaw led the Vikings with 22 points, while Mariah Miller added 13 points and eight rebounds.

CROSS COUNTRY

  • The Vikings wrapped up the 2017 season last weekend, competing at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
  • Cleveland State's top finisher was freshman Anna Brandt, who finished 123rd overall with a 6K time of 22:52.
  • During the 2017 season Cleveland State recorded four top-two team finishes, including a pair of team titles at the Lock Haven Invitational and Jenna Strong Fall Classic - the first-ever team titles under head coach Joe Jaketic.

MEN'S SOCCER

  • Cleveland State (7-10-2, 4-3-2 HL) began last week by taking down fourth-seeded Wright State, 4-0, in its Horizon League Tournament opener. Four different Viking scored as CSU posted its largest margin of victory in HL Tournament history.
  • The Vikings then traveled to second seed and host UIC and dropped a 3-1 decision in the HL semifinals. CSU cut its deficit to 2-1 in the 74th minute but could not find an equalizer.
  • Hesham Hammouda scored his ninth career goal in his final collegiate match while Sebastian Kalk made a career high 11 saves.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will host the sixth annual Magnus Cup this Friday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Nov. 19.
  • CSU took down Green Bay in dual action last time out, winning the meet on the final event.
  • Freshman Matt Akers was named Horizon League Diver of the Week this past week while Jason van der Touw earned weekly honors from CollegeSwimming.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will host the sixth annual Magnus Cup this Friday, Nov. 17, through Sunday, Nov. 19.
  • CSU swept a tri dual last time out, defeating both Green Bay and Marshall on the first weekend of November.
  • Junior Molly McNamara was named Horizon League Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season this past week.

VOLLEYBALL

  • After clinching their third straight Horizon League Regular Season title, the Vikings will host the 2017 #HLVB Tournament (Nov. 17-19) and enter play as the No. 1 seed.
  • Last time out, the Vikings extended their winstreak to 10 straight matches with a 3-1 victory at NKU and 3-2 win against Green Bay.
  • Cleveland State will begin defense of its #HLVB Tournament title with a semifinal contest at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18.

WRESTLING

  • Cleveland State will return to action next Tuesday, Nov. 22, when it competes in a tri dual with host Ohio State and Kent State.
  • Eight Vikings placed among the top six this past weekend as Cleveland State competed at the EMU Open.
  • Freshman John Kelbly won Freshman/Sophomore title at 197 pounds with two pins and a major decision. Redshirt seniors Nick Corba (184) and Gabe Stark (174) tied for the team lead on the day with four wins apiece.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Sara Skeens | So. | Volleyball | Wooster, Ohio

Skeens averaged 4.11 kills per set to lead the Vikings to a pair or wins and their third straight Horizon League regular season title. She recorded a career-high tying 19 kills against NKU and followed that up with an 18-kill performance against Green Bay in the regular season finale.

Recorded her 22nd career 20-point game with 22-point effort vs. Ball State

Kenny Carpenter | Sr. | Men's Basketball
Notched first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds at Akron.

Scored his ninth career goal in his final game as a Viking in the League semifinals.

Sebastian Kalk | So. | Men's Soccer
Made a career-high 11 saves in CSU's League semifinal setback at UIC.

John Kelby | Fr. | Wrestling
Won the freshman/sophomore title at 197 pounds at the EMU Open, going 3-0 with two pins.
