A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

CROSS COUNTRY

  • After a week off from competition, the Vikings return to action at the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, October 28 at 12:00 p.m. in Rochester, Mich.
  • Cleveland State is having it's best season under head coach Joe Jaketic, owning four top-two team finishes, including a pair of titles at the Lock Haven Invitational and Jenna Strong Fall Classic.
  • The Vikings have posted 14 top-20 5K times and six top-20 6K times this season, including a Cleveland State 5K record of 17:59 from Karen Barrientos at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic.

MEN'S GOLF

  • CSU concluded the fall campaign by placing sixth of 11 teams at the Dayton Flyer Invitational last week. Anton Krecic tied for ninth place to lead the Vikings with a 54 hole total of 219.
  • Krecic was CSU's top finisher in all five events this fall and recorded a 72.5 scoring average with three top-10 finishes.

MEN'S SOCCER

  • Cleveland State (5-7-2, 3-2-2 HL) plays its non-conference finale at Cincinnati on Tuesday, Oct. 24 (7:00 pm) before continuing League play at home on Saturday, Oct. 28, against Wright State (7:00 pm).
  • The Vikings lost their lone match this past week, dropping a 1-0 decision at UIC in double overtime when the Flames made a penalty kick.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • CSU (9-8, 5-3 HL) closes out the regular season on Friday (Oct. 27) when the Vikings host League leading Milwaukee at 7:00 pm at Krenzler Field. It will be Senior Day with Jaime Daniels and Katie Bainbridge being honored in a pre-match ceremony.
  • The Vikings clinched a berth in the Horizon League tournament for the first time since 2015 by earning three points with a 1-0 win at Northern Kentucky on Saturday night. CSU handed the Norse their first League loss of the season as Elaina Walnoha scored her first career goal just before halftime.
  • Under the direction of first-year head coach Dallas Boyer, the Vikings have won nine games this year, tied for second most in program history, while the five League wins are tied for the most in a season in school history.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will take the upcoming week off from competition before opening its home slate on Nov. 3-4.
  • The Vikings dropped their first two duals of the season at Xavier (162-98) and Cincinnati (189-96) over the weekend.
  • Junior Jason van der Touw won four individual events across the two duals while sophomore DJ Arslanian and freshman Dominik Niedzialek each won two events.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State will take the upcoming week off from competition before opening its home slate Nov. 3-4.
  • The Vikings dropped their first two duals of the season at Xavier (161-97) and Cincinnati (201-91) last weekend.
  • Sophomore Molly McNamara won three individual events across the two duals while sophomore Gabriella Marinelli and senior Tobie Zeller also won events at Xavier.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • The Vikings will take a week off from competition after their most successful run at the ITA Midwest Regional over the weekend, and return to the courts for the second annual Viking Invitational (November 3-5).
  • Last time out, Cleveland State had three players competing in the Main Singles Draw at the ITA Regional, including Nico Mostardi and Luke Phillips who went 3-0 in the qualifying draw to earn their spots.
  • Freshman Matthew Terry earned an automatic spot in the Main Singles Draw, and picked up wins in his first two matches to become the first Viking to advance to the Round of 16.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Gina Kilner | Sr. | Volleyball | Cleveland, Ohio
Kilner led the Vikings to a pair of wins over the weekend, dishing out 84 assists and helping CSU to a .253 hitting percentage in wins over Milwaukee and UIC. She became the fifth Viking to reach 4,000 career assists and is third in the CSU record books with 4,078 career helpers.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

DJ Arslanian | So. | Men's Swimming
Won the 100 fly at Xavier and the 100 free at Cincinnati.

Anton Krecic | Jr. | Men's Golf
Posted a 72.5 scoring average in the fall and was CSU's top finisher in all five events, including three top-10's.

Molly McNamara | So. | Women's Swimming
Picked up three wins in CSU's two dual meets over the weekend.

Alexis Middlebrooks | Sr. | Volleyball
Averaged 3.33 kills per set in the two wins last week, combining for 30 kills on the weekend.

Matthew Terry | Fr. | Men's Tennis
Picked up wins in his first two matches of the ITA Midwest Regional, becoming the first Viking to earn a spot in the Round of 16 in the Main Singles Draw.

Elaina Walnoha | So. | Women's Soccer
Scored first career goal in 1-0 win at League-leading Nothern Kentucky, helping CSU clinch bid to Horizon League tournament.
