A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

CROSS COUNTRY

  • The Vikings will have a week off from competition as they prepare for the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, October 28.
  • Last time out Cleveland State picked up its second team title of the season, as the Vikings placed first at the Jenna Strong Fall Classic.
  • Karen Barrientos won the individual title, posting a personal-best and Cleveland State record 5K time of 17:59. Barrientos became the first Viking all-time to break 18-minutes on the 5K course.

MEN'S GOLF

  • The Vikings close the fall campaign at the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 16-17).
  • CSU has been out of action since claiming the CSU Invitational on Oct. 2-3 at Barrington CC, using a final round 287 to move into a tie for first place and then defeating Oakland in a playoff.
  • Junior Anton Krecic has been CSU's top finisher in all four events this year and leads the team with a 72.4 scoring average.

WOMEN'S GOLF

  • CSU concluded the fall season last week at the Shirley Spork Invitational, placing eighth of 10 teams as freshman Amanda Baker tied for 18th place with a 234 total.
  • As a team, the Vikings posted a 309.5 average in the fall, including a school record low round of 292 at the Cardinal Classic.

MEN'S SOCCER

  • Cleveland State (5-6-2, 3-1-2 HL) continues its four match road trip this Saturday, Oct. 21, at defending HL Tournament champion UIC at 2:00 p.m. ET
  • The Vikings began this past week with a 2-0 setback at perennial power Akron on Tuesday night and earned a 1-1 draw at Green Bay on Saturday night with Noah Pio scoring his fourth goal of the season in the draw.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • The Vikings (8-7, 4-2 HL) play their final two road matches of the regular season this week, traveling to Wright State on Wednesday (Oct. 18) and Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Oct. 21). Both matches will kickoff at 7:00 pm.
  • CSU earned a 3-2 win over Detroit Mercy in overtime on Saturday, rallying from a 2-0 deficit. McKenna Vento and Grace Grant scored goals in the second half and Aliani Lorenzo netted the game-winner 2:28 into overtime.
  • The Vikings have four players with double digit points this year (Jenna Prathapa, 15; Dani Sowinski and Vento, 12; Grant, 10), marking the first time in program history that CSU has had more than two players with 10 points or more in a season.

MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State opens dual action this week as it visits Xavier on Thursday, Oct. 19 (6:00 p.m.), and Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 20 (2:00 p.m.).
  • Junior Jason van der Touw was named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week last Tuesday after winning two individual events at CSU's season-opening meet at Colgate.
  • The Vikings were picked second in the preseason Horizon League poll that was released this past week.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING

  • Cleveland State opens dual action this week as it visits Xavier on Thursday, Oct. 19 (6:00 p.m.), and Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 20 (2:00 p.m.)
  • The Vikings were selected sixth in the preseason Horizon League poll that was released this past week.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • Cleveland State will compete in its third tournament of the fall season this week, taking part in the ITA Midwest Regional. Action begins on Thursday, October 19.
  • Last weekend, the Vikings brought home a pair of consolation draw titles from the Louisville Invitational, as freshman Matthew Terry won the A Singles Backdraw title and Benjamin Slade and Jack Santilli captured the C Doubles Backdraw crown.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • The Vikings will have a few weeks off from competition before their final tournament of the fall season, returning to the courts for the WMU Super Challenge during the first weekend of November.
  • Cleveland State participated in the ITA Midwest Regional last time out, with Isabella Spindler, Jana Schober, Aleksandra Golawska, and Gaby Schoenberg all earning spots in the Qualifying Singles Draw.

VOLLEYBALL

  • Cleveland State (12-7, 5-3 HL) will begin the second half of Horizon League play at home this weekend, hosting UIC (Friday, October 20) and Milwaukee (Saturday, October 21).
  • Last time out, the Vikings picked up a pair of wins against Northern Kentucky and Green Bay, and enter the second half of the league slate ranked third in the league standings.
  • Alexis Middlebrooks and Gina Kilner are both closing in on career milestones entering this week's matches - Middlebrooks with 983 career kills and Kilner with 3,994 career assists.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Karen Barrientos | Cross Country | Sr. | Ashtabula, Ohio

Barrientos won the Jenna Strong Invitational on Friday with a personal-best time of 17:59, setting a CSU record for a 5K race. Her efforts helped the Vikings capture the team title, bettering the runner-up by more than 60 points. It was CSU's second team title of the fall season.

Finished third at Jenna Strong Invitational in 18:25, helping CSU win team title.

Aliani Lorenzo | So. | Women's Soccer
Scored game-winning goal just 2:28 into overtime to conclude CSU's come from behind win over Detroit Mercy.

Alexis Middlebrooks | Sr. | Volleyball
Averaged 3.38 kills per set in the two wins last week, posting back-to-back double-digit kill performances.

Noah Pio | Jr. | Men's Soccer
Scored his fourth goal of the year to help CSU to a 1-1 draw at League-leading Green Bay.

McKenna Vento | Jr. | Women's Soccer
Had a hand in all three goals in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over Detroit Mercy with a goal and two assists.
